Psalm 126:5-6 "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. (6) He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."
Have you ever felt like throwing up your hands and saying, "I quit!"
Have you ever thought that your work was not doing any good at all?
"What's the use in this? Nothing is going to happen! Why should I even
continue?" If you have ever felt like any of those things, then you
know that it can be very detrimental to your emotions. But we have a promise
from God in our verses today that if we are faithful in our work for Him, there
are blessings to be experienced.
I'm not a farmer by any stretch of the imagination, but I remember times when I
would sow grass seed on a barren part of the yard. I would water and watch!
Water and watch! If it didn't come up when I thought it was supposed to
germinate, then I would sow more seed and water and watch. Sometimes, I would
think, "There will never be grass in this area." But then one
morning, I would walk out and see green sprigs. Oh, it wasn't tall plush grass,
but it was green! I could feel a sense of accomplishment when I would see those
tiny sprigs of grass. It seems that work in God's kingdom is very similar to
the sowing of grass and waiting for the seed to take hold and spring up the
grass. We might get discouraged to think it is useless to continue, but the
truth of the matter is that God is the One who gives the increase. We plant. We
water. But God gives the final production of action that brings forth fruit to
His glory. Our verse tells us to go forth and that we will come again to
the harvest, but in between those times, there is a period of waiting. Hmmm,
That's called patience, isn't it? I'm still a work in progress. How about you?
1. I'm pressing on the upward way,
New heights I'm gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
Refrain:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven's table land;
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2. My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Tho' some may dwell where these abound,
My pray'r, my aim is higher ground.
