Psalm 148:13-14 "Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven. (14) He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD."
As always, I encourage you to read the entire Psalm. The Psalmist lists those
things and people who are to praise the Lord. He lists more reasons for
praising the Lord. But these last two verses speak volumes when we can look
into them and see who the writer is speaking of. We know this was written at
least a thousand years before Christ came to this earth; yet throughout the
Psalms, we have seen glimpses of Jesus. Psalm 2, Psalm 22, and Psalm 41:9 speak
specifically about Jesus and events in His life which was to come. But this
morning, as I read today's Psalm, I see Jesus in these last two verses. You
see, above all the other reasons for praising the Lord, Jesus stands alone as
the greatest reason for giving praise, honor, and glory unto our Father in Heaven.
In the fulness of time, God sent His Son into the world to die for our sins.
Praise His Holy Name! As this Psalm states, "His glory is above the earth
and heaven." Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, stated it in this
fashion: "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name
which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of
things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father." (Philippians 2:9-11) Read today's verses again. Can you see
Jesus?
"He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints;
even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the
LORD." We read in Philippians 2:9, "Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him..." Is it a coincidence that the word, exalted, was used
in these two verses? No, there are no coincidences in the Word of God. So then
what, or who, is the "horn of his people"? I understand the word,
horn, in this passage refers to the strength of God's people. So we can know
for a fact that our strength is found in no other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
God has exalted our strength and His glory is above the earth and heaven. We
give praise unto our Lord for the work of salvation which was accomplished on
the cross on Calvary's Hill. Jesus Christ is our salvation. He is our strength.
He is our wisdom. All glory and honor belongs unto Him for that which He has
done for us. For He, who knew no sin, was made to be sin for us that we would
be made the righteousness of God in HIM! PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!
