Daily Devotion: Joshua 2:18 and 21

Joshua 2:18     "Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee."

Joshua 2:21     "And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window."

Yesterday we saw the great statement of faith that was given by Rahab to the two spies who had been sent into the land. "I know that the LORD hath given you the land." She had greater faith than the 10 spies who had been sent into the land 40 years prior to this. They doubted. She knew. And not only did she know that God was going to give them the land, she dared believe that this same God would spare her and her family. Her house was on the wall which would soon be crumbling to the ground; yet, she believed God would have mercy upon her. Imagine how it must have been when she watched the nation of Israel marching around the city for those six days when nothing happened. It seems to me that time would have given her plenty of opportunity to renege on the agreement that had been made. But she and her family kept watch because she knew the walls would come down, but did not know when it would happen. She made certain that the scarlet thread remained in the window. We read in Hebrews 11:30-31, "By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace."

We have the "window" of God's Word that enables us to look at the power and majesty of our Heavenly Father. We can look through that window and watch the Red Sea part, water coming from a rock, manna sent from heaven, and many other blessings which were bestowed. We can look through that window and watch blind eyes opened, lame legs strengthened, lepers healed, and Lazarus raised from the dead. The one constant element that runs through the window of the Bible is the "scarlet thread" of the precious blood of Jesus. We are able to see all these things and so much more because of the blood which runs from Genesis to Revelation. It is the blood of Christ that paid our sin debt. It is the blood of Christ through which our Heavenly Father bestows His grace and mercy upon us. It is the blood of Christ that assures us deliverance from the wrath of God. It is the blood of Christ that has secured our eternal home in heaven. By faith, we can see the blood as we read each page of the Bible. Thank you Heavenly Father! Thank you Jesus! Thank you Holy Spirit!

Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood.
Would you o'er evil a victory win?
There's wonderful power in the blood.

Refrain:
There is power, power, wonder-working power
in the blood of the Lamb;
there is power, power, wonder-working power
in the precious blood of the Lamb.

Daily Devotion: Mark 14:65-67

Mark 14:65-67    "And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.  (66)  And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:  (67)  And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth." It's always nice and sweet when Devotions make us feel good about ourselves. But sometimes the Word of God causes me to become uncomfortable. Today's verses bring me to that place. It would be so very easy for me to look at the contrast between what was happening to Jesus and what was happening with Peter. It would be very comfortable for me to sit here this morning and condemn Peter for standing outside by the fire while Jesus was inside being mocked, spat upon, and struck by the servants of the high priest. It would be easy for me to sit here and say, "...
