Daily Devotion: Judges 7:20-22

Judges 7:20-22     "And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.  (21)  And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.  (22)  And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host..."

At the time appointed, Gideon divided the 300 men into three groups. They went against the darkness in the darkness, but their confidence was in the Lord's power and leadership. The only weapons they had in their hands were trumpets, lamps, and pitchers of clay. They used the element of surprise in the darkness to shatter the pitchers and let the light pierce the darkness. They blew their trumpets and the enemy went into shock thinking they were completely surrounded by a host of the army of Israel. The Lord sent the enemy into such disarray by using the light to blind them that they began fighting each other. Gideon and his men did not have to use the weapons of this world; rather they used the Spiritual weapon of the Almighty. "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds." (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

We have been given access to the greatest power that has ever been. Power that spoke this universe into existence. Power that created man from a lump of clay. Power that parted the Red Sea when it seemed the people of God had no way of escape. Power that brought water from a rock, manna from heaven, turned bitter waters sweet, and provided an oasis of palm trees and wells of water for the people. We have access to the power that brought the Son of God from heaven's glory to this world. Power that gave Him authority to lay down His life and take it up again. Power that gives us life through His shed blood and the forgiveness of sins. Yes, we have the power of the resurrection that enables us to be more than conquerors through Him who loves us and gave Himself for us. Power in the name of Jesus Christ our blessed Lord. We have been given the whole armour of God for protection and "... the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." We have all that we need to live victorious lives through Him.

The Army of the Lord
by the group, Acappella

(Chorus)
Are we walking into the enemy's camp, laying our weapons down
Shedding our armor as we go, leaving it on the ground?
We've gotta be strong in the power of his might and prove to the enemy
We are the army of the Lord and we've won the victory

All around us a war's going on between the wrong and the right
We've gotta choose which side we're on-the darkness or the light
Some of the soldiers of the Lord just don't realize
That the captain of the army of darkness has come to blind their eyes  (Chorus)

Can't you see that we're in a battle and there's no place to hide?
The shields of faith are full of darts and their shooting from every side
Just shake out the darts and run right at em' and remember who you're fighting for
Don't fall asleep cuz' if they catch ya' they'll take you prisoner of war (Chorus)

Daily Devotion: Mark 14:65-67

Mark 14:65-67    "And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.  (66)  And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:  (67)  And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth." It's always nice and sweet when Devotions make us feel good about ourselves. But sometimes the Word of God causes me to become uncomfortable. Today's verses bring me to that place. It would be so very easy for me to look at the contrast between what was happening to Jesus and what was happening with Peter. It would be very comfortable for me to sit here this morning and condemn Peter for standing outside by the fire while Jesus was inside being mocked, spat upon, and struck by the servants of the high priest. It would be easy for me to sit here and say, "...
