Matthew 14:34-36 "And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole."
Jesus came walking on the water to the ship where the disciples were. After Peter’s faith grew weak and Jesus saved him from drowning, they entered the ship where the rest of the disciples were watching what had just transpired. All that were in the ship were moved to bow down in reverence to Jesus. They testified that He was truly the Son of God.
Once Jesus entered the ship, they finished crossing the sea. It is estimated that this crossing would have taken three to four hours under good conditions. Jesus came to the ship during the fourth watch, which would have been between three o’clock and six o’clock in the morning. Considering that they had already been at sea for some time, their arrival in the land of Gennesaret would have been early in the day.
Once the ship was docked, it did not take long for word to spread that Jesus was there. By the reaction of the people, Jesus was already known among them. They knew about His healing power. They sent men into the countryside to urge their friends and neighbors to bring their sick and come to where Jesus was.
These people had great faith and a strong sense of their own unworthiness. They did not ask Jesus to touch them or to speak a blessing over them. Perhaps they had heard about the woman with the issue of blood. Whatever the reason, they asked only to touch the hem of His garment. As many as did so were healed completely.
Dear ones, let us rejoice when we are counted worthy to have knowledge of Jesus. Having knowledge of Him, let us be diligent to spread abroad the word of His presence. There is healing in even the hem of His garment. There is healing for all who know their unworthiness and look to His mercy. We who are blessed to touch Him are made COMPLETELY whole and will be presented before the Father without spot or blemish (2 Peter 3:14).
