Daily Devotion: Psalm 29:1-2

Psalm 29:1-2     A Psalm of David.   "Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.  (2)  Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness." "Give unto the Lord."  What do we have that God could possibly need? Nothing! God does not need us to do anything and there is nothing we can do that would add to God's glory and power. Yet, we read the Psalmist David telling us to "give unto the Lord." What are we to give? Yes, I'm full of questions this morning. David tells us to give "glory and strength" unto the Lord. The Lord is all powerful and full of glory and honor for all eternity. So what does our giving do, if it doesn't add anything to Him? First of all, what does it mean to give glory and strength to the Lord? I ask again - what does our giving accomplish if it doesn't increase the Lord? I submit to you that when David tells us to "give unto the Lord,...

Daily Devotion: Romans 4:22-25

Romans 4:22-25     “And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” Paul records that Abraham did not hesitate (stagger) concerning God’s promise to bless him with an heir. Even though he was nearing 100 years old, he did not doubt God. Although Sarah had been barren all their long life together, he still did not doubt God. Abraham was fully persuaded that God would do what He promised, and God imputed that unwavering faith unto Abraham for righteousness. Mankind by nature is skeptical of many things. That thought is expressed in the old adage “never believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.” I remember as a small boy my great-grandfather getting the Grit newspaper and hearing...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 28:6-7

Psalm 28:6-7     "Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.  (7)  The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." "Blessed be the Lord." I know that is not the entirety of the verse, but those four words stand on their own merit. No matter what is happening in my life, "Blessed be the Lord." He is worthy of my praise. He is greater than anything we will ever have to face in this life. I bow my knees to Him in adoration as I think upon the greatness of His glory. "Blessed be the Lord." Out of that blessedness, our Lord hears "the voice of my supplications." His hearing is not what makes Him to be blessed. He is blessed! I want to think that I understand that great truth at all times, but I must admit that His blessedness becomes magnified in my understanding as I experience His hearing my supplicati...

Daily Devotion: Romans 4:18-21

Romans 4:18-21     “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” Abraham’s faith was wonderful when we stop to consider his circumstances. God had promised him that he would become the head (father) of man nations. If God said the same to us today it would be an extraordinary thing in our minds. Yet, at 75 years old, God told Abraham (who was then called Abram) to leave his country and his father’s house, go into a strange land, and there God would make of him a great nation. Abraham did not falter, but went according to God’s com...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 27:1-4

Psalm 27:1-4       A Psalm of David.   "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  (2)  When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.  (3)  Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.  (4)  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple." In these four verses we find a declarative statement, experience, hope, and desire. "The Lord is...." No matter what is happening in my life, those three words never change. The Lord is... my light. He is the One who illuminates my path and gives me understanding concerning situations and circumstances. The Lord is... my salvation. He ...
