Isaiah 54:5-6 "For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. (6) For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God."
Sometimes, I'm afraid our estimation of grace has not been as high as it should
be. We love the fact that God loves us enough that He saved us, but do we
understand the depth into which we had fallen? Do we understand that God did
not have to save us? Do we understand that His saving us did not add one iota
to His being? God did not call us because there was something good within
us that He felt would add to Himself. In fact, He tells us point blank,
"There is none righteous, no, not one..... there is none that doeth good,
no, not one ... There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh
after God." (Romans 3:10-12) God did not look down through time and see
something of value in us; rather He saw us "forsaken and refused."
He loved us when we were absolutely unloveable. He loved us when we were
dead in trespasses and sin. He loved us when we were His enemies. He loved us
because He chose to love us. Period.
Who is this One who loves us so much? We read in today's verses that our Maker,
the LORD of hosts is His name. Our Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel is the only
One Who loves us enough to go to the extreme measure of dying in our
place. He is the God of the whole earth! Wow! Think about
that. The God Who created and sustains every single molecule in this universe
loves me. The God Who placed the sun, moon, and stars in the sky loves me. The
God who created this marvelous machine called the human body loves me. He
maintains perfect order; yet, He takes time to love me. This morning
finds me in a place where I'm thinking heavily about His love for me and how
unworthy I am. But God's love for me is not based upon my worthiness.
When I was nothing, God called me into His family. When I was as low as I could
go, God called me into His family. I love the old old hymn that says,
"I am so glad that Jesus loves me. Jesus loves me. Jesus loves me. I am so
glad that Jesus loves me. Jesus loves even me." I pray we all can
take time today to just think upon the wonder of His love.
