James 4:13-15 “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” We use a phrase in our language today when someone says something that goes against reason: “oh, come now!” From what I can understand, this is the same thing James is expressing with “Go to now.” He is admonishing us that taking the position that we will, on our own, go and do anything is against reason or common sense. It is something we do all the time. “I’m going to the grocery store this afternoon” or “we are going on vacation next week” and similar expressions are heard every day.
