Daily Devotion: Psalm 119:18 & 24

Psalm 119:18    "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law."

Psalm 119:24    "Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors."

B-I-B-L-E = Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Sometimes we hear it said that life does not come with an instruction manual. That isn't true. We have the perfect instruction manual. The problem is that we don't always apply that manual to our lives. There are wonderful things that are contained within the Word of God. He has not left out anything that is important and necessary for a productive and prosperous life. But, the natural mind does not - cannot - understand the spiritual applications of God's Word. That is why we find the writer of this Psalm asking the Lord to open his eyes. He wasn't talking about his natural eyes; rather, he was asking the Lord to reveal to him those things contained within the Bible. I believe that it is most necessary to spend time in prayer before seeking to understand what God is saying to us. "Lord, please give understanding. Holy Spirit, please open my heart and mind to receive your Word to me."  When the Lord begins to reveal those things to us, then we can say a hearty "AMEN" to verse 24, "Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors."

 1.     Holy Spirit, breathe on me,
Until my heart is clean.
Let sunshine fill its inmost part,
Without a cloud between.
Breathe on me, breathe on me,
Holy Spirit breathe on me,
Take my heart and cleanse every part,
Holy Spirit, breathe on me.

2.   Holy Spirit, breathe on me,
My stubborn will subdue,
Teach me in ways, of living flame,
What Christ would have me do.
Breathe on me, breathe on me,
Holy Spirit, breathe on me,
Take my heart, and cleanse every part,
Holy Spirit breathe on me.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: The Peace Of Christ - John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:27 As I sit and enjoy the Lord's creation and I feel the cool breeze blow across my skin, I am reminded of the peace that we find when we stop to appreciate the works of God. While we cannot necessarily count on another tomorrow in this world, all of God’s children have the assurance of something purer, something brighter, in the world to come. This brings peace when everything seems chaotic and difficult here and now. Jesus Christ was and remains a complex Person. Not only do we have to wrestle with His dual nature, we must face the depth of His teachings. Many of the Lord’s teachings are easy to grasp even if they are hard to apply. (Have you tried loving your enemies lately?) However, some of the Messiah’s sayings make us think very hard indeed. Isaiah 9:6 famously reveals that the virgin born Son of God would be the Prin...
